| Hi, my name is Susan Cargile and I have Multiple Sclerosis and a spinal cord injury. Anytime I go out for very long, I have to be in a wheelchair. Multiple Sclerosis has also put a huge strain on my eyesight, but there is hope for someone like me.
I would like to tell you about my special friend. He is a beautiful Golden Doodle puppy named Max. Max is only 6 months old and weighs 55 lbs. Before long he will start on a journey to become my service dog. To be a service dog, a dog has to have several qualities. First and foremost he has to be sound in health, gentle in spirit, and smart just to name a few. When I put in a puppy application with Teri at Goldens-n-Doodles, she helped me with my selection, picked him out and donated him to me. I was so impressed with her and her dogs. I will never forget her kindness. When Max is grown and trained he will assist me in many ways. His primary job for me will be to help me with balance. He will be my steady hand when I don’t have one. He can be taught to do many tasks such as, opening and closing doors and retrieving items for me. The list can go on and on. Since Max is a Golden Doodle, he has the sweet personality of the Golden Retriever and the smarts of the Golden Retriever and Standard Poodle. An added bonus is that he is so cute and my best friend. When I am sad or in extreme pain, he helps me get through it. When I need a good laugh, he can be silly. After all, they say that laughter is the best medicine. Golden Doodles are also good for a person with limitations because there is little to no shedding. One less thing to worry about. I have allergies also, and I have no problems with it around Max. As he gets older, I will depend on him and he on me. We will make some pair and we will enjoy every minute of it. |
